TVCOGECO is a great place to volunteer!

Malcolm Scott

Malcolm Scott is enrolled in the Media Fundamentals program at Lambton College and is currently completing a student placement at TVCOGECO.  He has also received preparatory training from Community Integration through Co-operative Education (C.I.C.E.) and is excited to be participating in live television production.

Each Tuesday Malcolm assists in the complete studio setup for Seaway Kiwanis TV Bingo.  Once the monitors, microphones, cameras, graphics, and videotape are ready to go, Malcolm moves into the control room to operate the audio board or the graphics computer, but his favourite job is camera.

He has also assisted with the live telecasts of Sarnia City Council.  Because this production originates at City Hall, Malcolm has to ensure that he promptly arrives at 2:30 pm on City Council days to help the production supervisor hook up the cameras and cables and prepare for the 4 pm live coverage.  The city’s business is important to TVCOGECO subscribers and Malcolm is part of a production team which guarantees that every speaker is seen and heard.

When Malcolm completes his college program and his volunteerism with TVCOGECO, he hopes to pursue further education in television production at Mohawk College in Hamilton.  Ultimately, his goal is to be a professional camera operator at sporting events or working for a news service such as the A Channel in London.

On a side note, Malcolm says he wouldn’t mind getting some extra experience at a radio station (he has completed one placement at Blackburn Radio in Sarnia) and would make himself available to “hit the air” anytime his services are required.

He is an enthusiastic participant and enjoys every aspect of the television production experience he is receiving here at TVCOGECO*.

TVCOGECO makes its TV programs with the help of trained volunteers. You can become one of those volunteers. Our production facilities, training and free access are provided by TVCOGECO. In fact, most of our production crews and on-air hosts are community volunteers who learned their skills at our studio workshops, and many of the program ideas were suggested by local residents.

For more information on becoming a TVCOGECO volunteer, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at (519) 336-6200 ext. 2
